Today is International Mud Day – but we can’t limit the celebration of mud to only one day here at Global Sanctuary for Elephants. Whether the dogs are running down a muddy road, Lady is cooling off with a mud bath, Maia is taking a mud pile nap, or all of the girls are caking on the mud during a rainstorm, the animals here seem to love to splash, swim, and squish. Getting dirty can be fun, it can keep biting bugs away, and it acts as a form of natural sunscreen. Watching the animals enjoy the mud here at sanctuary is a subtle reminder that happiness can be found in the smallest of things. Whether you prefer making a mess or taking a bath (or both), treat yourself today.
This video of Pocha enjoying the mud wallow was taken not long after she and Guillermina first discovered how much fun could be had sliding around in the soft and cool mud. Pocha’s joy in the moment is contagious.

June 29, 2022 at 2:45 pmIt sounded like G was telling Pocha it’s her turn. I am elated at how happy these wonderful elephants seem to be doing. I know they still have a ways to go. After all having trauma stays with you forever, its just learning how to deal with it. I think elephants are one step further with that then we are. Always thank you for sharing and giving your time fir these beauties. ❤️
