Pupy has been doing a bit of going back and forth, inside and outside of the barn. She got nice and soaked in two rain storms, which likely felt good on her dry skin. She’s still getting more comfortable and secure in her new home, which will naturally take some time. As Scott says: You really can’t ask that much more from an elephant who has been in a zoo and ecoparque for 30 years.
As a special bonus, Scott points out that Guillermina was making lots of chatter. You might be able to hear if you turn your volume way up. She vocalized with some huge trumpets that made their way up the hill from the female Asian habitat. Pupy was pretty sleepy so she didn’t respond, though she almost certainly heard it. The video finishes with a final glimpse of the sanctuary sunset.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

April 20, 2025 at 10:11 pmCan you do actual hearing tests for elephants?
Is the inflection and sound distinctly different with trumpets or even rumbles? Is this how Scott knows it is Guille and not Mara, for example? Fascinating!!!
Sleep brave girl Pupy!

April 20, 2025 at 10:27 pmThey definitely all have their distinct vocalizations. After hearing them over and over, you learn what each elephant sounds like.
