Pupy has really made herself at home here at the sanctuary. You can see in this video that she’s truly settling in and getting comfortable in her new surroundings. Her playful side is beginning to emerge and, as she relaxes, her personality is shining through. She is going to flourish in sanctuary life, and she’s opening up more and more with time.
Last night, when we went to check on her and bring her some supplementary food, she was in the barn. When we drive up on the 4-wheeler, she makes a big rumble with some smaller ones to follow. We don’t know how vocal she is going to be in general, but it’s wonderful that she’s expressing herself so freely now. We took her food out into the habitat to place it down for her and she followed us out easily. When checking on her on the observation camera several times later that night, we could see her still out in the habitat.
This morning, Dr. Trish brought her breakfast. Just as with the Asian elephants, we place food for her at the fence. Pupy began to eat without any problem or need for encouragement. Trish continued to place food further on down the fence line for Pupy to discover later, and Pupy followed her for a few minutes before returning to her breakfast. We’ll check on her throughout the day and report back.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.
