Mara Comes Near Bambi

We talked yesterday about Bambi’s hesitancy to spend time around Mara. In this clip, we see a little bit of what that looks like. Bambi is standing right next to Maia as Guillermina gets a drink from the water container. Mara approaches Bambi on her right, which is the side where she’s losing more of her vision, so that may have unnerved Bambi somewhat. As Mara draws near, Bambi moves farther away and seems to be making sure that Maia is at her side. Eventually, Bambi decides that she’s not ready to share space so close to Mara and leaves the group for some time on her own – at a fairly quick pace for a grandma elephant. Maia went to her later and things seemed back to the new normal for our group of elephants.

Bambi’s relationship with Mara seemed to have changed after she was found on the ground and unable to get up. I wonder if Mara pushed her down or did something to her while she was on the ground. Bambi’s tail was injured somehow. Maybe by Mara.

I am happy that Maia and Bambi have gotten so close.

I. Have wondered about when Bambi fell àlso if MARA HAD RAMMED INTO BAMBI AND ALSO BIT HER TAIL. POOR BAMBI. SHES ALWAYS BEEN SO LOVING TO MARA BUT IT SEEMS THERE HAD TO BE A HUGE DISAGREEMENT AND MOW BAMBI HAS A FEAR OF MARA

I also wonder about the incident with Bambi struggling to get up and Mara by her. The dynamics did seem to change at that point…I do think there is a correlation. Just my observation of course!
