Maia Has Extra Energy

During the morning, all of the elephants were spread out around the habitat. Rana, Mara, and Bambi were on one side of Yard 5, while Maia was on the opposite side. Guillermina was in Yard 4 and Lady was in Yard 3. Later that day, “The Powerpuff Girls” moved into the yards near the barn, which they seem to enjoy when they decide they want to visit them. Rana and Mara were particularly interested in staying in that area all afternoon, so Bambi, Guille, and Maia would leave and then return to visit them, leave again, then come back. 

It started to rain at one point and many of the girls wanted to be together. They were having a ball, throwing sand and mud, and just generally having a wonderful time. Toward the end of the day, Maia was by herself in Yard 4 and had an abundance of spunk. She was in full play mode and might have benefited from some time with Guille, but she was not near. So she found some hay in the yard and began throwing it all over the place, including on herself. She had a cheeky kind of energy that didn’t wear off quickly. She certainly made the best of her afternoon and had a fantastic time – without another elephant in sight.

    A 5 star photo capturing the joie de vivre of a fussy headed young ele . How wonderful that she is content to enjoy her own company sometimes & that is of course thanks to you all who have given the love & the safe space .
