Maia, Bambi, and Guillermina have been sharing Yard 4 for the past couple of weeks, having previously spent quite a bit of time in Yard 5 together. The annex is located at the back of Yard 4, will connect with the future Yard 6, and Bambi often gets her check-ups along the adjacent treatment wall. There’s a small yard in the annex between the two treatment chutes, and Maia enjoys grazing in that area. You simply have to walk through the first treatment chute to get there.
We’ve talked before about Guille’s uncertainty regarding walking through that same chute, which is similar to the treatment stalls in the barn that she likes. As expected, she walked into the annex but remained in the corridor instead of following Maia all the way inside. This time she stayed in the same spot for quite a while, eating but not going all the way through.
The two grazed while Bambi, who was about 20 feet away, got her daily exam at the treatment wall. During her session, Guille walked back and forth between the wall and the annex, seeming to want to check on things. Eventually, when Bambi’s treatment was complete, the other two girls were encouraged to join her outside of the annex. There was an exciting reunion, which is becoming the norm these days; there were lots of rumbles and trumpets and Maia squeaks. The three elephants are continuing to blend nicely together and it’s becoming evident that each individual lends something special to the group.
P.S.: Early giving is going strong, and GivingTuesday is almost here. Don’t miss tomorrow’s announcement! Donate now to help us reach our goal.
