Kenya is Getting Comfortable

While one of our caregivers was cleaning the barn after breakfast, Kenya was in the adjoining stall and she lay down. It’s not unusual for her to do that, especially late in the morning, because that’s her fairly regular routine. When she first arrived at the sanctuary, she was more sensitive to new noises, so she might start to recline and then, if any sound rang out, would get right back up. We see this willingness to relax easily as a sign that she’s becoming more and more comfortable every day. 

You can see in the video that Kenya has dug a little hole in the dirt with her trunk, and she is daintily shoveling the red dust out. Because she can sometimes be a little sensitive to being filmed, we kept our distance. Plus, we try to give the girls space when they are resting or sleeping. Kenya reclined for a few good minutes before getting back up and heading into the habitat.
