Bambi Has Discovered Mara’s After-Dinner Snacks

On many evenings, Mara, Bambi, and Rana (or some combination thereof) travel down to the barn for dinner. We make sure they all get plenty to eat and give them a quick check-up to make sure everyone is doing well, and then they head back out into the pasture.

Most days, Mara leaves first and the others follow. But today was an exception.

It seems that Bambi has learned that we put extra produce and hay in the habitat for Mara to eat during the night. So, after dinner, she was the first to take her leave of us and head back out ahead of the others, hoping to scope out the best spot for evening snacks.

We followed her out on the 4-wheeler, causing her to slow down a bit so that Mara could catch up, and we gave them both a little bit of hay. Now that Bambi has caught onto the fact that if she heads back first, she is able to find more food in the yards, she may not always wait so patiently for her friends after mealtime.

But, as always, don’t worry: we make sure Mara is getting plenty of food each night!

The way Bambi came alive in sanctuary is truly remarkable and could be a text book example for ZOOs and circuses and government agencies IF they wondering if the elephants are worthy any such transfers. Your summaries of girls activities are very funny and truly insightful..:-) I also wonder about our concrete pit girls, and check daily, religiously for THAT news. But am very patient! It will happen! and it will be domino affect! One after another because everything is ready except Tamy’s home. Love to all. Thank you!
