Reading a message from a friend today about her beloved dog passing and these words stuck in my head when she talks about the loss, ‘So big that life just has to change when they are no longer a part of it.’ For some of us those beings that leave us have two legs, fur, feathers, or trunks, but their impact on you is forever.
If you ask Scott or myself when something happened, we date it by elephants. It was before Bunny arrived at sanctuary or after Delhi passed away- their presence in our life is what we know most. They have meant the world to us.
So today we take a bit of an extra moment to think of those that helped to shape who we are, saw us through our toughest moments, made our hearts grow more than we knew was possible and offered us a love we never even realized we needed or deserved.
And a saying I only know from Winnie the Pooh– “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard”

So strange the experience of both joy and pain, the joys from the past, the pain of the projected future without them somehow collide and settle into the gifts and mystery of love, and perhaps a secret longing for reunion ~
