You may remember that our recent fundraiser through The Big Payback helped Global Elephant Sanctuary raise over $107,000 in 24-hours for Tamy’s Tomorrows. A generous donor matched those funds up to $100,000. When added to the $150,000 collected by Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, we were able to raise over $357,000. That, combined with previous donations, put us close to our overall goal.
Recently, Argentine social media influencer Santi Maratea, known for his commitment to fundraising for various causes, dedicated around $20,000 in contributions from his followers to help build Tamy’s habitat. All of these dollars combined helped round out our fundraising goal of $461,560 for Tamy’s habitat, which means we will soon be able to welcome the first male elephant to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.
While it will take many months to begin Tamy’s move to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil (as we mentioned in a recent post), these funds have allowed us to purchase all of the steel necessary for construction of the male Asian barn and fencing for the first three yards. We have applied for the required permits to begin building and are awaiting approval.
Thanks to all of you who have supported Tamy and the rest of the elephants at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. We are grateful for your support in all forms, be it continuing to make donations (whether one-time, continuing, adopting and elephant, or through our wishlist), subscribing to our blog, following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and simply spreading the word on the importance of sanctuary for elephants in captivity. Without you, none of this would be possible.
