If you’ve ever wondered what Bambi and Guillermina do when Maia is extra sleepy, you might guess that they graze and wander. And, for the most part, you’d be right. But during this particular after-breakfast interlude, Maia went about her business of napping in the pond and Bambi decided to start horsing around with Guille. 

Bambi started out standing on the right, with her behind closest to the camera. (You can tell which elephant is Guille by her long, hairy tail.) Bambi began to put her trunk on Guille’s back in a playful way. Guille seemed to decide she wasn’t in much of a mood to tussle, but she does appear to want Bambi to stay close. Eventually, Bambi began to reach over and gently touch Guille’s face, putting her trunk in Guille’s mouth. 

After a few minutes, Guille seemed to give in to Bambi’s silliness and backed up into her face–almost like a little kid teasing an older sibling. Bambi flops her trunk on Guille’s back again and leaves it there, with Guille continuing to back up all the while. It was a funny and sweet interaction, with Guille seeming to sense how rough she could (or couldn’t) get with Bambi, leaning into the wrestling just enough to give Bambi a chance to get some energy out. The dynamics among these three elephants are so lovely and their friendships are layered; they obviously care about each other deeply.
