Apparently, having big ears doesn’t always mean you can identify the direction the 4-wheeler is headed in. Around dinner time, Kenya was near the barn and Pupy was a little ways over in Yard 3. Caregivers opened up the gate between Yards 1 and 2, hoping that Kenya would follow toward the back of Yard 2, where it neighbors Yard 3. The plan was to feed both Kenya and Pupy near each other, as we often do.
Kenya usually heads toward the 4-wheeler when she hears it, but this time she seemed either indifferent or not listening. Pupy, for her part, heard the caregivers arriving and headed that way, but was apparently distracted and took a long path to the fence. We’re not sure where Kenya went, but we eventually found her a yard over. She followed back to the section of fence that separated her and Pupy and both were fed there. They were very rumbly and seemed relaxed, and after some time Pupy ended up walking away. She enjoys her time around Kenya, but is showing not only does she enjoy being able to walk away from her and leave her space, but she doesn’t seem confident enough to interact with Kenya without a fence between them. Despite her hesitations and some negative experiences prior to sanctuary, she’s clearly putting in an effort to move her relationship forward with Kenya, just at a pace that works for her.
