Rana’s Breakfast

For breakfast, each elephant gets some hay, grains, and produce before going off to wander or to get treatment with caregivers. Here you can see Rana very cleverly picking up her food in an organized manner. She’s quite meticulous about lifting up her food neatly and in order. Her trunk goes for the grains right away, scooping them into a manageable pile before lifting the whole thing into her mouth. She saves the apples, bananas, pineapple, and watermelon for later; the sweetest bites will be savored at the end of the meal. 

It’s amazing how much food an elephant can eat with what seems like a small amount of chewing. Of course, a recent EleFact showed a photo of what an elephant’s teeth look like, so we know they have the ability to grind down food efficiently with their large molars. Rana certainly wasn’t wasting any time in going back for bite after bite.

    Rana does an adorable job at gathering, arranging, scooping up, and eating her grains and greens. I loved seeing this and imagining what a joy it must be to see her doing so every day. It made me want to donate and add to her pile of extra goodies, LOL I will have to do that before the day is out. It’s great to see Rana doing so well, and I enjoyed the closeup of her beautiful profile.
