The wonderful thing about a sudden rain shower is how it stimulates the senses. There are the sounds of the rain making ripples on the pond surface, the smell of the tall grass, the feel of the moisture on your skin and, perhaps most importantly, the sight of the elephants truly enjoying themselves.
Here, Rana (left) and Mara (right) have taken a break to enjoy the downpour, quickly becoming muddy from the dirt baths they’d been taking. No one saw the need to get into the pond, though it’s common for them to take a dip when it storms–and only they seem to know why. The elephants had a calm vibe, and that energy spread across the sanctuary. We do our best to take our cues from the elephants, and on days like this, it’s easy to adopt their carefree approach. Everyone needs a moment to relax, even if it means you get absolutely soaked in the process.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.
