Guille Carries Her Snack

After her post-breakfast nap, Guillermina decided she wanted to take a walk on her own, as the weather offered a gentle shower. The grass in this section of the habitat is growing nearly up to her elbow, but it’s not too tall to enjoy. You can see it’s still very green and, as such, also very tasty. Now that Guille has a better grasp on how to handle her excitement around the older elephants, she has no problem taking time to herself when she has excess energy; sometimes her friends are in the mood to play or explore, and other times they want to nap and find a spot to relax for a few hours.

Guille is particularly eager for an extra bite most of the time and, since elephants can eat for up to 20 hours per day, her enthusiasm for food helps fill her up. She’s still a snack lover though, so she tends to be on alert for any food that caregivers leave for the elephants to find. Here, after spending a few minutes looking for something delicious under the trees, she came upon a hay pile: just the thing! She immediately scooped it up and headed with typical Guille quickness, swallowing the whole trunkful in one bite.
