Pupy’s Striking Strut

As we’ve mentioned before, Pupy is a fast mover and it can be hard to safely film her at times. We try to capture glimpses of her day, but can sometimes only get short clips. That’s the case here, but we simply have to share this video because it shows her seemingly growing confidence with a little side of spunkiness. 

You can see Pupy sashaying down the fence line in the habitat. She was heading to breakfast and her floppy trunk seems to have a mind of its own. She stopped, almost as if she were striking a pose, before coming the rest of the way towards her food. She’s exhibiting more confidence every day, showing her brave spirit and willingness to conquer the unknown.

    This is how African elephants strut, so typical of many videos I’ve seen of African elephants walking along the road to whatever music is in their heads, just love it.

      She has different speeds, but is just about always going to be faster than the Asian elephants.
