Pupy Crushing a Watermelon

It’s incredibly satisfying to see and hear an elephant crush a watermelon. Melons have a distinctive popping sound when they burst and juice explodes out, running down like a rain shower.  Her caregivers from the ecoparque made sure we knew some of her preferences, and with certainty we were aware that she absolutely loved watermelon.

Many of you ask about Pupy’s trunk strength and are curious to know if it’s getting better. That’s difficult to determine at this point because there simply hasn’t been enough time to see improvement. We’re also not sure of the cause of her trunk weakness; it could be her muscles but it could also be some sort of nerve issue or other unknown cause. She has definitely been using her trunk more in the habitat than she did at the ecoparque, so she may simply be finding different ways to use it when she thrashes trees and snacks on brush. Regardless, she has opportunities now to be an elephant and do elephant things, and trunk strength is just part of that.

It amazes me how elephants can do that chomping on a whole watermelon shows the power they really have its crazy also watching them step on a watermelon looks like they’re squashing a grape! Hopefully with constant use her trunk strength will continue to get better thankfully she’s exactly where she needs to be with those around to help and love her like she so deserves! You go girl we love you Pupy 💞🦋

No worries Pupy. There’s a learning curve for crushing watermelons most effectively.
