To no one’s surprise, we had a massive storm a few days ago and it brought with it giant sheets of rain throughout the morning. In fact, we delayed the elephants’ breakfast for a few minutes because Maia and Bambi ran into the dirt pile in Yard 5 when the raindrops began. They were dusting until the dirt turned to mud, after which they were picking up mud and tossing it over their shoulders. 

When it first started to drizzle, Guillermina headed into the woods, perhaps to find a tree to scratch against, since her skin was becoming nice and moist. She also loves stripping the bark from trees with her tushes, and rain means that bark gets softer and easier to remove. She eventually joined her friends to enjoy the mud and got much squishier than the others. Their spirits were so high that they vocalized for a minute or so, leaning into each other and getting in a few good scratches.
