We’re still getting quite a bit of rain here at the sanctuary, which we all appreciate. Some days, you get completely soaked, but it’s worth it to keep cool–and to see the elephants enjoy themselves. That’s exactly what the wet and muddy Rana and Mara are doing in this video.

Here, Mara and Rana are taking their time and grazing before dinner. They hadn’t yet headed in the direction of the food that was waiting for them. You can hear Scott call to them with a “loohoo”, which is a sound we’ve discovered carries well and doesn’t startle anyone. Mara turns toward him with her ears out, eager to head his way. Rana lifts her trunk to sniff the air. And the two elephants make as much of a beeline toward him as two grandmas can.
