Maia Eats Near Bambi, Rana, and Mara

While doing a late afternoon check-in with the ladies in Yard 4, we saw Maia right in the middle of a huddle with Bambi and Rana. Mara joined them shortly after. Maia had been spending time eating near all three of the “Powerpuff Girls” that afternoon and all were calm and enjoying the sun.

Because Bambi and Maia have been consistently working out the dynamics between them, it was particularly interesting to watch how calmly the two stood together – so close they were nearly touching. Once Mara joined the group, Bambi stayed calm and didn’t react toward Maia in a way that was protective of Mara. At first glance, one might think that these two elephants with big personalities would have found their way to each other quickly. But elephant relationships are complex, and so Bambi and Maia’s bond has shifted on a near-constant basis. Things will almost certainly continue to transform, but this was a gratifying moment to witness.

Wonderful to see this sisterhood evolving. Bambi with her eagerness and neediness to learn and have a friend, now is learning how to be one. What a pure joy to watch these beautiful, deserving souls enjoy each other and their freedom. #sanctuaryheals . Thank you GSE. I am so proud to be a member and support you.

It is amazing to think that those changes in relationship between Maia and the rest of the group shifted so dramatically after P&G arrival! I think it was some big catalyst. It is like when they all heard all the noises, squeaks, trumpeting, they gathered together to think about it….and it looks like they are waiting for something as well…. Maybe Maia was “delegated” by the group to go and see…..amazing to observe and to await what will happen next…All seems very positive. Human family are not pushy and residents are not pushy….Our new arrivals are getting plenty of privacy and space….Over the Moon here with all what transpired so far…xoxoxo
