Even though Kenya has a big energy, she’s been relatively gentle with the trees in the habitat so far. She’s doing a great job at exploring and finding her way around her new space, but there have been no big crashes like those we saw when Pupy was making herself at home. That is, until now.
While it might not be the biggest tree in the yard, Kenya–in the midst of giving her itchy skin a good scratch–heard a crack and perhaps filed that thought away for a later time. Caregivers came by that same spot the next morning and saw the same tree had been pushed down. We expect that Kenya will find many trees to scratch up against, maybe even picking a favorite. But now that she is beginning to understand that her environment is hers to make a home in, she will relax more into the natural elephant behaviors that are only now beginning to make themselves known.
P.S. It’s an exciting time of change for Kenya, and you can help make it even more special. Send a welcome basket filled with comforts, or become her EleGuardian and support her healing journey all year long.

July 16, 2025 at 3:33 pmPoor baby after forty years of seeing trees and greenery out of reach. At last Kenya can touch, rub against and push down. She is learning to be an elephant.❤️

July 16, 2025 at 4:00 pmLol, love seeing this girl just be herself in safety. Love seeing red dirt come off of her body. Her spirit just feels so at ease and maybe even playful and happy. 🙂
