Kenya at Club Mud

Kenya has been enthusiastically exploring her new home. She was a little quicker out of the barn than Pupy and it didn’t take her any time at all to discover Club Mud, the man made mud wallow in the female African habitat. She really got into covering herself in mud, getting down on her knees, twirling around, and twisting her nose around.

Pupy took a measured approach to her discoveries–until she discovered that she could go anywhere, and then she took off like a bolt of lightning. Kenya is following in those steps, seeking out new spaces with enthusiasm and just a touch of insecurity. But she’s well on the way to understanding that she gets to make her own choices, and that will make all the difference.

It must feel soooooo good, she seems beside herself with happiness! And constantly rumbling, like a cat purring. Or perhaps she is just murmuring “I can’t believe this! I can’t believe this!!”
    Go Kenya!

Another opportunity for Flanders and Swann!

    Mud, mud glorious mud,
    There’s nothing quite like it
    For cooling the blood.
    So follow me, follow,
    Down to the hollow,
    And there let us wallow
    In glorious mud.

Makes me smile to see her enjoying life. The fact that she gets to live the rest of her life like this is so great.
Will you guys ever bring males into Sanctuary?

We’re always in conversation with individuals and organizations about bringing more elephants to sanctuary. There are definitely males on the list!

I wonder if any or all of them identify Scott’s presence for their new life and appreciate it.

Wow! That’s a whole new life! Thank you Scott and everyone who worked so hard to bring her to the sanctuary! I just saw a terrible image of his former life: looking at google map satellite, we can clearly see his shadow in an empty, arid and depressing place…what a change! She will be able to start living instead of just existing. A thousand thanks GSE. I love you all, amazing elephants and humans that you are!
