Guillermina is First to Dinner

It was dinnertime and Guillermina was clearly the most ready to eat, because she ended up by the fence before her sisters. You can see, however, that Bambi and Maia are headed in her direction at a fairly fast pace (fast for elephants, anyway).

Once Bambi nears Guille, she slows down some, perhaps waiting for Maia to catch up. When Maia makes it to the fence line, the three immediately line up: Guille, Maia, then Bambi. And after some excited blows from Bambi and some chirps from Guile, they are ready for their food. The caregivers ended up feeding Bambi a little farther away from the other two elephants, so she was able to eat most of her food before she found herself with guests eager to snack on her extras. Watching the friendship between these three continue to flourish is a delightful sign that, when given space and the ability to make their own choices, the elephants are spending their days with those who bring them joy.

Bambi’s leg has been that way since she fell. We’ve written about it before. She’s getting along well enough.
