We have several hills in the habitat which the elephants like to climb. One of them is called ‘the mountain,” and we found Guillermina making her way up it one morning. At the top was a fallen tree, which caregivers had situated so that the elephants might have some browse if they came upon it. But no one ever seemed interested.
Guille, however, decided that the now-dead leaves might be a delicious snack because she started pulling those leaves off and chewing them. As she descended the hill, she saw some caregivers on the 4-wheeler and decided to follow them to see if there was a party going on somewhere else. She brought with her the branch she’d been eating from and took it everywhere she went for a while. She eventually let it go, but the caregivers got a good chuckle from her eagerness to play in a new way.
