Day 4: No More Elephants in Argentina!

Kenya and the team are going through immigration, but they are on Brazilian soil. There are officially no elephants in Argentina. 136 years of captivity ended this morning at 6:59 AM.

Our ESB team is joining the caravan now, along with PRF (Brazilian police escort), and will bring Kenya home. She continues to do very well. She is expressive, eating well, and had her first coconut water, which essentially makes her officially Brazilian. 😉 The Brazil team brought all new hay, fruit, and fresh greens (grass, palms, bamboo, and sugar cane). Once everyone is cleared, they will begin their drive through Brazil and home to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.

Welcome to Brazil, Kenya!

——
This is an update on Kenya’s relocation from Ecoparque Mendoza, Argentina, to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, a 2,800-acre natural sanctuary. Kenya was brought to Mendoza at 4 years old and has lived her entire life alone in a sterile zoo environment. Now, at 44 years of age, her life is about to change dramatically. She will have the space to roam, make her own decisions, and explore natural behaviors like foraging for food and bathing in the mud. In addition, for the first time in decades, she’s going to have the opportunity to have a new friendship with another elephant, Pupy.

Argentina has led the way, now other countries need to step up to the plate. Thank you Argentina, for having the wisdom to see that this needed to happen and then for following through and MAKING it so it could happen, with Scott, crew and so many more as well!
