Today is day 3 of Kenya’s journey to the sanctuary. It was warmer last night and Kenya was feeling sleepy. The caravan stopped at a hotel briefly and Kenya and her team got some rest — everybody except Walter, who stayed by Kenya’s side. They woke to a lovely clear day, a beautiful sunrise, and the sounds of a rumbly Kenya requesting breakfast. As the team pulled away from the hotel, Kenya was very vocal. If you listen close to the end of this video, you may be able to hear her express herself loudly as the truck got on the road.
—— This is an update on Kenya’s relocation from Ecoparque Mendoza, Argentina, to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, a 2,800-acre natural sanctuary. Kenya was brought to Mendoza at 4 years old and has lived her entire life alone in a sterile zoo environment. Now, at 44 years of age, her life is about to change dramatically. She will have the space to roam, make her own decisions, and explore natural behaviors like foraging for food and bathing in the mud. In addition, for the first time in decades, she’s going to have the opportunity to have a new friendship with another elephant, Pupy.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

July 7, 2025 at 1:19 pmSuch a special story. We went to an elephant sanctuary in Asia (Laos) a few months ago and were thrilled to see elephants interacting with each other in a natural environment. T they’re trying very hard to stop riding the elephants and to let them live in peace. Safe journey, Kenya!
