We’re proud to say that our brave girl Pupy is venturing further and further from the barn each day. We went to check on her and see what she was up to and she was nowhere to be found. Great news!
It turns out that Pupy was deep into Yard 3. She seems a little sleepy this morning, so it appears that she must have had a busy night. She left plenty of evidence in the form of knocked-down trees and branches to show exactly where she’d been. Pupy had traveled all through the habitat, having met us in the west corner of Yard 1 for dinner, made her way to the fence between Yards 2 and 3 around 10pm, then found her way to the east end of Yard 3 by morning.
Though somewhat tired, she’s light and lovely this morning and, as you can see here, is creating pathways through the yard. That’s actually how the paths through the sanctuary habitats are made: by elephants walking through the area over and over. Pupy will be paving the way for future elephants at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil in many ways.
P.S.: If you want to get a picture of how far she’s traveled, here’s a photo of the habitat.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

April 22, 2025 at 11:40 amIt’s is an overload of cuteness 🩷🩷 I love her curiosity and her pauses to think things through, processing the bits of information.. lovely, cutest girl! If she traveled through the three yards, she may have found the mud wallow.

April 22, 2025 at 4:01 pmI’m thrilled to see Pupy exploring and finding so many places to rest, forage and for the first time in over 30 years travel distances through trees, brush and grasses. I wonder what animals she comes across in the night.
How many acres in each section 1,2 and 3?
Thank you for the daily updates and being there for our beautiful elephant family. ❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
Sara says
April 22, 2025 at 4:07 pmThe three yards together are about 13 acres. When we complete the expansion, that will bring it to about 85 acres.

April 22, 2025 at 3:27 pmI love the map! Would you give us directionality for the map? You talk about the west corner of yard one, so I wanted to orient myself.

April 23, 2025 at 1:26 amI don’t think anyone imagined just how brave and adventurous this “Little Monkey” was going to turn out to be. I continue to be amazed at every update and post we get about all the new things she is doing and experiencing. I didn’t think it was possible, but I keep falling more in love with Pupy every day.
