At Home in the Habitat

Everyone has days when they’re more energetic than others. We can all appreciate having time to play and expend lots of energy, just as we can all acknowledge that calm days are needed, too. Pupy is exploring her new world with both approaches. She has days when she wants to charge through the woods and make a ruckus, and she definitely has days when she wants to dig and create giant mud wallows. But there are other moments when she seems to be immersing herself in the quiet of nature.

For years, Pupy lived in the middle of a giant metropolis at the Buenos Aires Ecoparque. She was surrounded by noise and the sounds of the big city, but our hope was that she would welcome the music of the natural world and the simple beauty of a quiet night. We imagine that the first few days were strange to her, but since then we often catch glimpses of her in gentle moments like this one. She appears more and more at ease every day. She seems to be thoughtful and introspective, processing all of the newness at her own pace, which may be the healthiest approach for her. Each elephant’s journey is different and there’s no wrong way for her to walk this path.

Pupy is priceless! Enjoying her meal as she is being serenaded by the birds. Sure beats the crowded, noisy, artifical existence she once had to endure. Strength, Love, Hope, and Healing Pupy!!!
