Rana and Mara were hanging out by a water trough one morning after treatment. Rana eventually headed toward a nearby shade tree, next to the pond, while Mara was playing in the mud. Our team was still there, cleaning up from treatment.
Mara isn’t always the most observant elephant, and, after a few minutes, she looked up from her mud wallow and seemed a little surprised that Rana was gone. Since we were there and ready to go, we drove the four-wheeler in the direction of Rana, with Mara following.
These two usually have a mini party when they reunite, so we stopped once we were past them, ready to record just in case. Here they are greeting each other after a few minutes apart.
In the video, Rana is standing under the tree, and Mara approaches. If you watch until the end, you can see Mara scratching her trunk on the tree.

Amazing footage. Very practical to have an anti-itch tree nearby. ????

Oh, I have no words for the cuteness-level!
And those sounds, I can’t get enough of those wonderful sounds they can make.
Can’t get enough of elephants.
I adore it all as everything elephant = adorable!

September 1, 2020 at 3:32 amThis is gorgeous. It’s so heart warming to see Mara have this freedom and friendship after so long being on her own. The same for Rana who now has a best friend. Ramba will be looking down and smiling on them. We could not have wished for a better outcome.
