Guillermina is known for being an outgoing, fast-moving, busy elephant most of the time. She seems to have so much energy that she’s learning to channel – a big contrast from the older, more relaxed girls that make up the rest of the herd.
But this week has been a particularly calm and quiet week for Guille. Instead of zooming around everywhere, she has been walking more calmly and interacting with the others in a more gentle manner. She’s had some nice, quiet moments with the other elephants over the course of the week. In fact, she and Maia were seen sleeping side-by-side, both with their trunks over the fence. It seems that sometimes it can be good to take a nice, relaxing break – something that Guillermina seemed to need.

May 16, 2023 at 2:29 pmCall me morbid, but I worry about her. Being so young, chances are she will outlive all of her friends and the sadness that will bring her.I am so thankful for the Sanctuary to give her the freedom she deserves.

May 17, 2023 at 5:36 amVery glad to see she and Maia are still comfortably connected. It must has been lovely seeing them sleeping side by side with their trunks both over the fence taking some weight off! Adore them both. It sounds good she can now slow down sometimes, good for her, maybe she’s beginning to heal after her mother’s sudden tragic death?
Sara says
May 17, 2023 at 8:41 amAs you know, healing is a complicated process. She’s likely healing and mourning, as do most.
