A Morning Shower For Mara

On a sunny morning after breakfast, Rana and Mara were near the barn since it was time for Rana’s foot care. Mara stayed in Yard 1 while Rana got her soak, trimming, and topical treatments. Because it was so warm, we thought Mara might enjoy some cool water, so we turned on the elephant shower. 

What we call the elephant shower is actually a standing pipe near the hose, which is open and angled to allow for a sprinkler-like spray that the elephants can enjoy. The whole thing is similar to a hose bath but with much higher water pressure, so in this case, the elephant can cool off on their own, without having to worry about a human disrupting the mood. Not to worry–you can see in the video that the pipe is far out of an elephant’s reach, so they can’t use it as a toy. Mara stayed under the stream of water for several minutes and was even opening her mouth and letting the water splash on her tongue. Eventually, she walked away toward Rana, much wetter and cooler than she was a few minutes before.

    I would like to be right beside you Mara, doing the exact same thing. Right now, where I am, the temperature is -10 degrees Fahrenheit!

    I could watch this video all day! Such a stunning background, so green and lush and Mara is so enjoying her shower, what’s not to love about this beautiful girl ✨🐘❤️
