For a couple of weeks after Pupy’s passing, Kenya would sometimes nap for a little longer than she had prior. Caregivers regularly keep track of her while at the barn or habitat and on the observation cameras, and could watch her sleeping in the afternoons for several hours. These days, she’s resting less and we’ve seen plenty of evidence that she’s been heading into the habitat more often, and into deeper locations.
During those initial slower weeks, we found that Kenya particularly likes to lie down on the large, soft dirt piles we make for her in Yards 2 and 3. Caregivers periodically use the backhoe to move the dirt into cushiony sections, which are great for dusting–but also for sleeping comfortably. Some mornings, we find huge, Kenya-shaped body prints in multiple dirt piles. It seems as though she might visit more than one during the night, perhaps trying them out to find the perfect one. Regardless, she rests well and is usually happy to greet her caregivers at breakfast.
