Kenya is usually eager to eat dinner (except for when she doesn’t even hear the 4-wheeler coming) and, if she doesn’t meet the caregivers when they arrive, she’s usually at the fence pretty quickly. It was time for her to have her evening meal and she was fairly near the barn in Yard 1 of the African habitat, so her food was delivered to her there.
For some reason, when they arrived, she walked further into the trees instead of heading toward the spot where her hay, grains, and produce were being laid. She emerged a minute later with a branch in her trunk, apparently more interested in that than her dinner. Really, it was just a momentary idea, because she set aside her branch for later after a couple of minutes. It’s nice for a girl to have options.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

September 4, 2025 at 4:31 pmIt’s truly amazing how Mother Nature has given elephants everything they need to survive with only a trunk to sniff out food, besides seeing it first, but also using the trunk to dust themselves off when they’re hot.
I loved how Kenya had her legs crossed at the beginning, so cool.
