Pupy Crashes Through the Trees

The fact that you can often hear Pupy headed your way before you see her is endlessly entertaining. Many of our supporters have likened it to watching dinosaurs come through the trees in Jurassic Park and (minus the scary part) it’s hard to disagree.

In this video, you can hear Scott call to Pupy, getting seemingly no response. Eventually you notice some rustling and you know she’s somewhere nearby. It takes a moment before you actually see trees and bushes moving, and then finally Pupy appears! The ability to immerse herself in her habitat is exactly what we want for Pupy. She’s waited decades for the chance to lose herself in nature and we’re grateful that she’s taken to it so quickly. As we often say, it’s miraculous how fast elephants can revert to natural behaviors–even ones they haven’t accessed in many, many years.

I can’t even imagine how happy she must be after so many years. Probably not believing it’s real! I pray she lives many, many years at sanctuary!

Watch out guys, I am coming through! As we have all witnessed, it is incredible how elephants held in captivity for decades, since being a mere baby, can go back to their natural behavior and instincts. The are magnificent.❤️🐘

It may have taken beautiful Pupy decades to get to GSE, but wow, it’s so heart-warming to see how quickly she’s adapting and now having the time of her life that is long overdue and so well-deserved. She’s now living her life in the natural habitat that elephants were meant to live and thrive in.

Pupy, it is beyond wonderful to see you being a free elephant at last! It makes me smile and feels so much joy on your behalf. You must be feeling that joy too. You knew what to do the minute you got to sanctuary. I am so grateful to GSE. I love you so much and I can’t wait for Kenya to arrive so you will have a friend. God bless all of you elephants, all of the animals in the world and the people who made this possible for you.
