The Elephants Like the Tractor

We’ve mentioned before that the elephants get excited when they hear a 4-wheeler headed in their direction; they are hoping that it will be accompanied by food. In this instance, the sound is coming from the tractor. And elephants seem to love the big noise that comes from large machinery. Although sometimes mistaken for stress, elephants often get vocal and silly when large machinery passes by.

You can hear Guille’s significant rumbles followed by Bambi offering some low rumbles of her own. In turn, Guillermina gives off some of her sweet squeaks which Maia responds with some squeaks of her own. At one point, when off camera, Guille can be heard making fart-like sounds. All the while, Scott is nearby and enjoying all of the different vocalizations. Listen for yourself and see if you can tell who is making what sound.

Do they associate it with food? Sounds like it’s on “their frequency”.

I love the trumpets, too, but for me the most endearing sounds are the big rumbles.
