Sunday Smile: Baby’s Turning Red

This week’s Sunday Smile gives us just a quick peek at Baby giving herself a heavy sprinkling of sanctuary red dirt. Almost without exception, elephants love dusting. It’s an essential part of being an elephant and, even if years go by without contact with real dirt, they always know what to do when they see it. Baby has multiple dirt piles throughout the habitat and in the barn, and even takes naps on them when she’s not covering herself.

    Just wondering how long it will be until Baby gets to hang out with the other elephants and choose friends, if she wants.

      We don’t have an estimated amount of time. It depends on how long it takes for test results to be processed.

      It was taken by one of her caregivers. She probably looks smaller because it was taken at a distance.
