Rana, Mara, and Bambi in the Morning

Some mornings we are met with greeting parties from the elephants. The girls can be vocal in the early hours, and this particular video was taken a little past sunrise. While Guille and Maia were walking down the fence line toward them, Rana, Mara, and Bambi stopped by to express “good morning” in their own unique ways – and their silliness carried on through breakfast time. 

You can see that Rana’s fuzzy tail is sticking out which, in this case, shows that she’s in a cheerful mood. For a moment, Mara offers her foot to Rana, which is a playful thing that she once did often, and we are starting to see her do again. Throughout the experience, Bambi is making her deep rumbles to signify contentment; Rana joins in with some rumbles of her own – and Mara makes all of the noises in between. Even on the sleepiest of mornings, there’s nothing like a lively elephant welcome to wake you up.

    I run out of superlatives! I wish I spoke elephant! All their vocalizations are fascinating and adorable. It was nice to see a beautiful blue sky; rain seems to be forecasted most days. Merry Christmas, everyone, and endless blessings to you all! 🥰🎄😘

    That was something they have such pretty eyes and those eyelashes are long it’s so nice to see happy Animals you all at the Sanctuary are just amazing and Thank you for everything you all do for these girls
