We frequently mention how committed Maia is to Bambi, whose vision is increasingly compromised due to cataracts. Bambi seems to want more emotional elephant support at times, though she is becoming more accustomed to finding new ways to orient herself, and we do see her more at ease with walking off on her own a bit. Both Maia and Guillermina are watchful of Bambi and seem to keep her in mind when they move around the habitat; from what we can see, both girls (Maia especially) keep an eye on Bambi and do their best to make her feel comfortable.
Here, Bambi demonstrates just how much she has Maia wrapped around her trunk. She stands just a few feet away from Maia, but keeps looking her way. Maia doesn’t waste a moment, heading directly over to Bambi, so she doesn’t have to spend any time on her own if she doesn’t want to. Once they’re together, you can hear mini-trumpets and low rumbles. They touch each other gently when they reunite, two sisters standing side-by-side and enjoying each other’s company.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

April 1, 2025 at 6:01 pmBambi is something and Maia doesn’t seem to mind keep an eye on her friend that’s a true friendship they have question Sara Bambi’s cataracts can you all have them removed like they do for Humans

April 1, 2025 at 6:03 pmBambi isn’t a good candidate for surgery due to her age. It could be dangerous for her to go under anesthesia. Additionally, the type of cataracts she has could break apart easily, which would make it difficult to remove and potentially could make the cataracts worse.

April 1, 2025 at 7:06 pmBambi my love, you could not be in a better place or have better supportive sister-friends or care takers to love and look out for you. I pray your eyesight does not continue to decline, so that you have many more years of even partial sight to enjoy the sanctuary freedom you deserve after so many years a prisoner. ❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️
