Maia, Guille, and Bambi Get on the Scale

Today was weigh-in day for Bambi, Maia, and Guille. To weigh them, we place load cells under the platform we built to create the scale. We keep the platform there permanently in the 2nd treatment chute in the barn, and since the elephants walk across it regularly, adding small electronic components under it doesn’t cause them any concern–although some of the ladies will take notice of the wires and get a little nosey.  

At first, Bambi wasn’t too interested in walking across, so she let Guille go first. Unlike Bambi, Guille was more than happy to participate, actually walking back and forth across the scale several times. Perhaps she just wanted to show us what a cooperative girl she is. 

True to form, Maia stood and rested on the scale for quite some time. In fact, when Bambi decided she was ready to walk over it, she had to nudge Maia a little bit to get her to budge from the scale. All three elephants got good reports from the weigh in. Bambi has gained more weight, putting her almost to where she was before she initially started losing weight. Maia and Guille didn’t really need to gain, but their weight did go up a small amount–nothing major. It seems that everyone is benefiting from Bambi’s extra snacks at mealtime.

      different kinds of fruits. watermelon and jackfruit is a favorite. we try to keep their diet balanced for their health. too often, an overuse of fruit causes diarrhea.

    were you all giving the girls snacks while they were on the scale if so that’s cheating adding those calories a the girls have to watch there girly figure Smile

    I would have loved to have seen all that! So glad to hear Bambi is gaining weight again, and the other two are enjoying little bits of her extra snacks 😂. All that lovely new growth with the rains must be helping too , maybe?

    What did they each weigh? Also, what is their standing height? It is an interesting thing to know and compare,.
