Maia Finds Bambi After Dinner

On this evening, all five elephants were by the pond fence in Yard 4. Things seemed quiet and the mood was calm. Bambi rumbled as Rana and Mara were coming up to the fence where she and Maia were standing side by side. Maia didn’t rumble back, since she was already snacking on hay, but the mood in general seemed really light. 

Perhaps because Maia didn’t respond as anticipated, Bambi became slightly insecure and quickly walked all the way to the barn. The four remaining girls finished their dinner and Scott went to check on Bambi with Maia already on the way. This video shows Maia swiftly heading to check on her friend. When Maia arrives, both elephants get excited. They eventually walked over to the fence so that Bambi could finish her food and everything was totally fine. It’s possible that Bambi just became unsettled when Maia didn’t respond to her immediately. Finally, when the friends did meet again, there was a celebration of rumbles, small trumpets, and some gentle touch between both elephants.

    Heart wrenching and wonderful at the same time, that Ba,bi had felt rejected, and her trumpet of pure joy when Maia touched her and reassured her of her love. Such an amazing interplay of pure emotions! Thank you for sharing this story!

    I love seeing the supportive friendship between Bambi and Maia! I am concerned with how thin Bambi looks. 🙁

      She is thin right now, but getting lots of extra hay and produce.

    Yes. BAMBI IS VERY INSECURE WITH OUT MAIA. NOT REAL CLOSE TO HER. THIS IS HEARTBREAKING BECAUSE SHE DOESNT TRUST MARA AT ALL. AND RANA HAS NOT ENGAGED TOO MUCH WITH BAMBI SINCE MAIA IS BAMBIS BEST FRIEND. HOW IS GUILLIE IN THE HERD??

    Wonderful to see what a loyal, attentive and loving friend Maia has become!
    Bambi looks like she has lost a fair amount of weight. It makes me wonder if she might have another health issue brewing, especially since you have been giving her extra hay and produce.
