It was time for Bambi’s morning treatment, so we shifted her from where she was standing with her friends in Yard 3, to Yard 2 by the fence. Normally, we have the elephants lean into the fence or the bars in the barn chute when we’re working with them, because that helps us reach them in a safe way. Once she was at the fence, Bambi leaned in, but then she started scratching, scooting herself up the fence line a few posts. She methodically moved along the fence and scratched, stopping when an itch needed attention.
Due to the rain we’ve been having, Bambi had been playing in the mud, so she had a very dirty and wet body; that certainly had something to do with her needing a good exfoliation. She even lifted her foot up and put it through the bars in the fence so that she could scratch the inside of her leg. After a while, things got quieter and Bambi decided to finish her treatments, but needless to say we had to be flexible with her morning session because Bambi’s priorities were elsewhere.

February 27, 2025 at 7:15 pmLOL I can picture the whole thing, LOLOL Bambi just lollying her way down the fence, itching and scratching along. She must have been too far from a good itchy, scratchy tree.
