We talk often about how vocal Rana and Mara are at many times throughout the day. They’re known for chatting quite a lot, particularly in the evenings, when their sounds carry up the hill to us. Both of them get treatments done each morning after breakfast and they tend to be free with their rumbles and squeaks. Many times they’ll stay in the barn with each other to keep one another company–and get a few extra snacks in the meantime.
This video captures one of those moments before treatments. You can hear Mara’s “errr” sounds carry through the space. Rana is relaxed and dusting herself while Mara gently touches Rana’s leg. After years of friendship, you can see their comfort level with one another; there’s an easygoing nature in their interactions. It’s easy to understand why they want to celebrate being together so often and so enthusiastically.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

March 5, 2025 at 7:04 amIsn’t it still a possibility that Rana and Mara knew each other at some point in their lives? The reaction that Rana had when Mara arrived was unusual, wasn’t it? I know there was chatter about whether their paths could have crossed. I believe at the time ESB was unable to confirm that. Is there any possibility that it could be true or it it impossible that their paths ever could have crossed? Thank you and bless you for all you do. I have followed you before you even have elephants. You have come a long way!
