We’ve mentioned that Maia, Bambi, and Guillermina have been enjoying some fresh palms, which grow in abundance on the property. As Scott notes in the video, Bambi has a special technique that she uses to get what she really wants: the stalk. She pulls the leaves off, with some assistance from Guille, wanting the crunchy section in the middle. Her trunk is remarkably nimble as it maneuvers to get what she seems to consider the tastiest part.
P.S.: We give the girls palm leaves that are slightly wilted. We’ve found that it makes them crunchier, which the girls seem to like. Maia is especially keen on having the crispiest leaves we can find.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

September 14, 2024 at 2:23 pmYummy! I’ve often wondered how elephants can eat things like this and not poke their throat or get stuck on the way down? Also how much food can an elephant hold in their stomach? Can they get sick if they overeat?
