We have massive amounts of a variety of types of palm trees across the property and, in the past, we’ve given palm leaves to the elephants. We stopped offering them a while back, since they tend to give Mara stomach issues. But now that we essentially have two groups of elephants hanging out together, we were able to give some to Bambi, Maia, and Guillermina.
The plan was to offer palm leaves to Maia and Guillermina while doing Bambi’s treatment to keep them occupied. That worked for one brief second, until Bambi realized what was happening and stopped participating, looking for a palm of her own. We didn’t know she liked them so much, but clearly she does. She handily took Guille’s palm from her, then went to get her own. There would be no check-up until Bambi was stocked up and full of crunchy palm leaf snacks.

August 29, 2024 at 9:56 amSorry Mara had tummy issues from the palms. Not to go into detail, I can only imagine what elephant diarrhea must look like. Yikes. I have a hard enough time cleaning up the back yard from my dog, Gigi! She goes potty a lot.
