One morning, before the caregivers went down to give the elephants breakfast, we began to hear lots of trumpeting and ruckus coming from down the hill. We checked on the observation camera and could see Bambi and Maia in Yard 5, by the pond. Both had their tails sticking out in excitement and were making all sorts of noise. They were having their own little party.
By the time Scott got down to them, they were much quieter – but not for long. Maia seemed a little but sleepy, but Bambi wasn’t having any of that; instead she embraced her silly mode, throwing a stick and taking down part of a tree. It was lovely to see Bambi get super feisty, especially since Maia and Guillermina tend to be the most rambunctious of the three girls. Bambi doesn’t initiate play as often as those two, so it was an encouraging sign that she was able to embrace her silliness.

November 12, 2024 at 11:01 pmIs Bambi’s right leg ok? She was moving it like Rana moves her one leg.

November 13, 2024 at 7:27 amBambi has been like this for probably over a year now. It is more exaggerated in one part of the video because she gets it caught on the long grass clippings from bush hogging. But this is her ‘normal’ for a little while now.

November 12, 2024 at 11:17 pmI recently made a comment that seems to have vanished. This has occurred before. Is there a concern? Thank you.

November 13, 2024 at 9:42 amSo sweet! When did Bambi’s right leg get so stiff? I would have almost thought that was Rana (although it’s Rana’s left leg that doesn’t bend)

November 13, 2024 at 11:08 amit’s been about a year at this point i believe. it’s just much more pronounced because she gets it stuck on the long cut grass. you can see it in a lot of the other videos, not just as noticeable. and we talked about it after it initially happened. but time is incredibly relative here, so the year is a guestimate.
