Now that Scott and Dr. Trish have arrived at the Buenos Aires Ecoparque, they’re working on the logistics involved in bringing Pupy to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. Here you can see Scott at the elephant enclosure, once known as the Hindu Temple for Elephants, as he waits for Pupy to make an appearance. He explains a little bit about what’s happening there now and what is still to come. In the second LIVE video (see below), Pupy shows herself briefly before heading back inside again.
P.S.: We’re still learning new technology, so you will want to start the video about 2 minutes in!

February 20, 2025 at 4:19 pmShe must be wondering why in the last several months she’s had so much extra attention. I am so thrilled to see her at the Sanctuary when she discovers all the room to roam and trees and grasses to eat, the dirt to play in and the water. Ty for all you’re doing to get her to a better place to live and meet new friends.
I was wondering is there a place that keeps track of elephant’s DNA and you can see who is related?
Sara says
February 20, 2025 at 6:40 pmWe’ve never heard of such a thing. I know that some zoos have done DNA testing on elephants they want to breed to make sure they’re not related. But otherwise, not that we know of.

February 20, 2025 at 5:35 pmIs the area in front of the barn the only outside space for Pupy (and previously Kuky and Mara?)
Sara says
February 20, 2025 at 6:35 pmIf you mean her current enclosure, yes that was the section where all three stayed.

February 20, 2025 at 7:09 pmIs that her whole enclosure? What is that concrete in the middle? It seems precarious with the people walking by how do they keep the people out? Must be stressful for Pupy being so close to people.
Sara says
February 20, 2025 at 7:28 pmThat is her whole enclosure. It is a little precarious. When Mara lived with Pupy and Kuky, she somehow ended up in the moat, which is why they ultimately were separated. There’s a fence between the enclosure and the public.
