It’s Time to Welcome Pupy!

It’s happening! We’re excited to announce that Scott and Dr. Trish are now on their way to Ecoparque Buenos Aires. They will arrive at the facility first thing tomorrow and will start the process of working with the team to prepare Pupy and all of the support staff for the journey to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.

Pupy has been an absolute rockstar when it comes to completing all of her requirements for transfer. She is used to working with her keepers, so she was quick to finish the testing needed. After a few weeks of acclimating to it, she seems to be comfortable with her transport crate, which she will need to stay in for the entirety of her trip  to Brazil. Once Scott and Trish arrive, they will need to coordinate with the truck drivers, crane operators, and police escorts so everyone knows their role and what to do when the time comes for Pupy to leave the Ecoparque and begin the journey to her new forever home.

The drive from Buenos Aires will take a few days, the length of which will be partially determined by Pupy herself. We monitor the elephants closely along the drive and stop frequently as a general rule. But we also have cameras in the crate, so if Pupy indicates that she’s tired or seems thirsty or just in need of a break, the relocation team will follow her lead and make a safe stop.

We will, as always, keep you updated from the road. Check our Facebook and YouTube pages for any live videos from Scott and the rest of the relocation team. (We’ll post them on the blog as well.) We will be updating our webpage with developments along the way, so you can check back on Pupy’s travel page to see what’s going on with the team. And, of course, you can sign up for text message updates from the road. We’re beyond thrilled to take these next steps with Pupy and finally bring her home to sanctuary. We hope you’ll follow along.

P.S.: Stand with Pupy and the incredible team making this rescue possible. The transport staff will be proudly wearing their Project Pupy shirts on this journey—now you can too. Get your own special edition PROJECT PUPY shirt and show your support. Click here to find your size and order your own!

P.P.S.: There are many more exciting ways you can be a part of Pupy’s new beginning. Send her a welcome basket, make a donation, or adopt her today!

Elephants are very sensitive and intuitive, so we can only imagine they would sense something is happening.

Thinking of all on this long journey and the first African resident at GSE. So happy it’s all happening at last and Pupy will move on from place of the sad death of her life long friend, and be a zoo elephant no more. Best wishes

So happy! I thought this day might never come. Hopefully Kenya will follow soon, Kenya is the reason I heard about ESB in the first place. I can’t recall exactly, but I must have seen a write-up on her somewhere.
