On Saturday, we posted a video of Rana and Mara getting a bath. One of the miraculous things about this clip was that it was filmed across the creek in Yard 5 – where Mara has, until now, never been. Up until this point, Mara and Guillermina were the only elephants not to cross over to that side of the creek in Yard 5. But on this day, Mara must’ve gotten up the gumption to walk over with Rana. 

Of course, they received an unexpected treat when the water trough was getting cleaned and refilled very near where they were standing. Scott and the caregivers were happy to spray water into their trunks and cool them off with some refreshing behind-the-ear splashes. We don’t know why Mara chose this particular day to make the trek across the creek, but perhaps she’ll see it as an exciting new place to roam with her best friend – having little old lady chats together and appreciating the space.
