GSE’s Vision for Sanctuary

Long before the inception of Global Sanctuary for Elephants, our vision of what sanctuary looked like for elephants had been formed by the decades we shared with them before and the lessons that they taught us. We know that there are vital components that play roles in each individual’s healing journey. Among the things that elephants have shown us that they need are vast, natural spaces; the healing power of a herd; mental and physical stimulation; and an emotionally and physically healing environment.

As we’ve grown, GSE’s experience has placed us in a leading role in the international sanctuary community, seeking to help other organizations with rescue and relocation efforts, and lending our expertise and wide range of contacts to those in need. When the sanctuary community is strong, we all benefit – especially the animals.

We’re going to continue to expand all of our efforts, which are inspired and supported by you. Please enjoy this video message, voiced by Nadia Mari of the Global Rumblings Podcast and Elephants in Japan. We think it showcases our mission and vision for the future and our hope for the change to come.

P.S. This week’s episode is a little different—and a little shorter! Enjoy this fun compilation of pre-recording chats, bloopers, and other outtakes, courtesy of our producer Bob. We hope it brings a smile to your face until we’re back with a full episode on November 5th!

Pourquoi n’est il plus question d’accueillir de nouveaux pensionnaires alors qu’il y a tant d’éléphants encore emprisonnés en Amérique latine ?

We are always working on bringing more elephants to sanctuary, although many times we are not able to discuss what is going on without jeopardizing our ability to rescue them. We have two teams of lawyers and have brought in many other individuals to fight to get the importation permits for the 3 African elephants from Argentina. We are trying everything in our power but it is very difficult when someone in power clearly does not want the elephants to come to the sanctuary. But we are also working on elephants within Brazil and in other countries. It is just not something we can discuss.
