Maia’s Subtle Ear Wiggle

April 20, 2024

There are very subtle things that you begin to notice once you’ve been working with elephants for many years. In this video, Maia is standing next to Bambi and gently touching her face. We can tell that Maia is excited by the tiny things that she does. For instance, around the 43 second mark in the video, Maia’s ears do a little up-and-down wiggle. You might not immediately see it if you didn’t know what you were looking for. This is her sign that tells everyone that she’s so excited that she can barely contain it. There are no big trumpets, likely because she’s sleepy and being quiet, but the motion she makes says it all: she’s thrilled with her current situation.

Adorable! Maia is so happy to have a good friend again and maybe someone to take care of, a buddy that needs her. Just like people. I love elephants.

I had to watch 3 times to see it, but then I usually do watch these videos at least a couple of times. I love that Maia is so happy.
